Weekend Box Office 2/8 – 2/10

Well, even after a nice controversy over critic Rex Reed’s tasteless review of the flick, Identity Thief proved that Melissa McCarthy is no longer a bridesmaid in the eyes of moviegoers.  I’m more than a little ashamed I just wrote that. Regardless, McCarthy and co-star Jason Bateman ruled the box office as Identity Thief opened at #1 with $34.5 million, …

Weekend Box Office – Feb 1-3

Just a quick Box Office wrap-up this week, as almost everything flopped due to the Super Bowl.  One film that actually struck a cord with filmgoers, was Warm Bodies.  A Zom Rom Com (yea, you get it), this PG-13 zombie love story managed to squeak out $19.8 million over the weekend.  Very impressive for a very small-budgeted film like this.  …

Weekend New Releases

It’s February and you know what that means…yep, time for some zombie romantic comedies mixed with a little Stallone head bashing and maybe even a little bit of old dudes trying to stretch out their twilight years.  We went more in detail in Ep 77, but here’s the rundown of this week’s flicks. Warm Bodies – A zombie take on …

Weekend Box Office – Jan 25-27

Well, January is usually slow and this weekend wasn’t much of an exception.  Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters slayed its way to the top (yea, that just happened) with an estimated $19m.  Not bad, but not great either and you can pretty much cancel any plans of a Hansel & Gretel 2. The Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton take on the …

Weekend Box Office Jan 11-13

Well, apparently no one watches the news, because Zero Dark Thirty was the #1 movie this past weekend…and everyone knew the ending.  With $24.4 million, the Will They Catch Bin Laden thriller terrorized the competition, garnered tons of Oscar nods (Best Picture included) and we learned once and for all what happened that night.  Except for all the stuff the …

Peter Jackson’s newest flick continues to rule them all as The Hobbit held strong at #1 with $32 million for a $222m total here in good ole’ North America, meanwhile the film continues to swallow trolls worldwide as the film is over $500m already. As far as the new Christmas Day openers, Django Unchained trailed all week, but this weekend …

Weekend Box Office Dec 14-16

Well, only one major release before the onslaught of Christmas films…and it set the December record for opening weekend.  Peter Jackson’s return to Dungeons & Dragons land ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘ opened to a fantastic $84.6 million, upsetting I Am Legend for the all time Dec. opening weekend.  It also eclipsed Avatar and the previous Lord of the Rings …

Weekend Box Office 11/30 – 12/2

The weekend after Thanksgiving weekend rarely offers up any surprises…and this was no exception.  Not even the mighty Brad Pitt could make a dent in the Box Office and people essentially saw the same few movies they saw on Overindulgence Weekend.  Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 took #1 for the 3rd week in a row with $17.4 million for a $254m …

Weekend Box Office Nov 23-25

The Thanksgiving weekend is usually one of the biggest at theaters of the year, and 2012 was no different.  With several strong openings and 3 very strong carryovers, this year was over $200 million at the box office. Repeating at #1 was Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 with $43.6m for a $227m total thus far.  Look for saga’s conclusion to bite …

As it should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, Twilight Breaking Down: Part 2 sucked the life out of the box office with $141 million for the weekend, and $340m worldwide.  As the concluding chapter in the Twilight ‘Saga’, the film is seen as the end to this franchise, but they are already working on some new version …

Weekend Box Office – Nov 9-11

Well, James Bond is alive and well and still kicking the crap out of pretty much everyone.  Skyfall opened to the biggest Bond debut EVER!  Somewhere Pierce Brosnan just kicked a white cat down some steps.  Daniel Craig’s 3rd foray into the world of MI6 opened to $87.8 million, according to studio estimates.  That brings the latest Bond to over …

Weekend Box Office Nov 2-4

Well, Wreck-It Ralph destroyed the competition with a $49 million opening and a CinemaScore rating of A.  Seeing that it’s a family film, and one of the biggest of the holiday season, expect Ralph to be knocking it down for some time. A HUGE surprise was Flight.  Opening in less than 1900 theaters, Flight actually had a higher per screen …
