Weekend Box Office – Feb 1-3

warm bodiesJust a quick Box Office wrap-up this week, as almost everything flopped due to the Super Bowl.  One film that actually struck a cord with filmgoers, was Warm Bodies.  A Zom Rom Com (yea, you get it), this PG-13 zombie love story managed to squeak out $19.8 million over the weekend.  Very impressive for a very small-budgeted film like this.  The zombie trend is here to stay we think.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters held on fairly well with $9.4m for a $34m total.  Not a great total, but with overseas numbers it’ll be profitable.  Silver Linings Playbook had another great hold down only 18% from last week for $7.7m and $80m total.  MAMA took in another $6.5m for a $58m total.  Can’t wait for the sequel, StepMama.  And rounding out #5 was Zero Dark Thirty with $5.1m and $77.6m total.

The other 2 new releases bombed.  Bullet to the Head made only $4.5m, which makes it Stallone’s lowest opener since 1981’s Night Hawks.  Ouch.  And Stand Up Guys pulled in only $1.4m so don’t expect a sequel for either of these flicks.
