Weekend Box Office Nov 16-18

As it should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, Twilight Breaking Down: Part 2 sucked the life out of the box office with $141 million for the weekend, and $340m worldwide.  As the concluding chapter in the Twilight ‘Saga’, the film is seen as the end to this franchise, but they are already working on some new version of the storyline.  With the film already being profitable, you can guarantee it will happen.

Holding strong at #2 was Skyfall, the newest Bond flick held strong w/ $41m for a $161m total thus far, and the film will be the top grossing Bond film ever by Wednesday.  Count on Daniel Craig to get a nice pay bump for his next 2 films. Be sure to check out our Skyfall – 50 Years of Bond Spoilercast.

Lincoln, the Daniel Day Lewis / Steven Spielberg collaboration on the true life of Abe Lincoln (though they completely omit tales of his vampire slaying ways, our theory as to why it happened to open against a certain vampire film), managed a very strong $21m opening despite only playing on 1775 theaters and opening against the concluding chapter of Twilight. Nice job, Abe.

Rounding out the top 5 was Wreck It Ralph with $18m for a $121m total and the holidays still to play, and Flight with $8.6m and a $61m total.

This coming weekend sees several more releases so this will be a padded holiday weekend.  Listen to Ep. 68 for more info on this years Thanksgiving releases, as well as our Spoiler Free review of Skyfall:
