Yes, that Melissa McCarthy. You are probably saying to yourself ‘But she’s only been around for 4 years?’, but you would be mistaken. McCarthy has been acting for well over a decade, she has just been riding her comedic talents into success for the last 4 years.
Everyone knows that comedy is hard, and McCarthy has become somewhat of a master at it. What she also has is an extreme talent with dramatic roles. Look closely at some of her recent comedy. In both The Heat and The Identify Thief, there are scenes within those lightweight films that showcase ‘The McConaughey Potential’ within. Those little moments of dramatic levity showcase what an actress McCarthy could be, given the right role and opportunity.
We get that her bread is buttered with comedy, but this is an actress who could really offer an overpowering contrast to the Meryl’s of the world by injecting a little realism and honesty into a dramatic role. Hopefully, one day we can see all that McCarthy really has to offer.
