The Door: Westworld Season 2

Welcome to Beyond Westworld, and boy do we have a Season 2 Preview for you…

We open the door on the second season of the Beyond Westworld Podcast. Thanks for bringing yourself back online. In 1973, celebrated author and filmmaker Michael Crichton released Westworld, his visionary idea of what a theme park could be as human-looking androids fulfilled our every desire. 4 decades later, creators Jonathan and Lisa Joy Nolan took the concept to the next evolutionary step as Westworld can now be ‘fleshed’ out as a deeper concept, one that explores the vast array of potential and consequence from such advanced artificial intelligence.

As we prepare for HBO’s Season 2 premiere on April 22, 2018 “hosts” Aaron and Troy discuss everything we know up to this point, without spoilers. Dolores, Maeve, William, the gang’s coming back, and it’s time to see what are favorite characters have in store for us. Our team also dives into the Nolan’s recent trolling of their own audience, as well as our visit to The Westworld Experience. The park is now open, so come on in and have a drink on us!

Breaking The Code

This year we will keep all spoilers at the end of the show so those of you that don’t want to theorize can enjoy the analysis and yet still be a pure white hat. So if you don’t want to be spoiled do not read any further.

As the season starts a few trailers and images were out there for people to decode. One image led people to last year’s Discover Westworld website where Aeden was still operating. Working your way through the site took us to a new website for this season, one for the parent company Delos itself.

Instagram threw us a few stills one of which was a robotic bird with a hat on some dry desert landscape that actually hid a code on the horizon line which led people to watch this video. Watching this video gives you the theme for Season 2, “The Door”.

In the Season 2 Trailer featuring an orchestral version of the song “Heart Shaped Box”, there was some hidden code which you can see in the image below. When you decode this you land on a video on the Delos Corporate website. This video gave us the password to access the restricted areas of the website.

Then the iOS and Android app for park and host simulation launched where you get taken to the Delos Careers Website. You can take a placement test to see where in Westworld you might fit in. Hopefully you get something more glamorous then us.

What do you all think? Which character’s journey are you most looking forward to in Season 2?

About HBO’s Westworld

In 1973, celebrated author and filmmaker Michael Crichton released Westworld, his visionary idea of what a theme park could be as human-looking androids fulfilled our every desire. Four decades later, creators Jonathan and Lisa Joy Nolan are taking the concept to the next evolutionary step as Westworld can now be ‘fleshed’ out as a deeper concept that explores the vast array of potential and consequence from such advanced technology. The one-hour drama series is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite can live without limits, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

The cast of the series includes Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Tessa Thompson, and more.
