New In Theaters

New in theaters this week and certified rating via Rotten Tomatoes, as we discussed in Episode 24 of The Hollywood Outsider:

Haywire – 80% Positive – Pick of the Week: The MMA’s Gina Carano stars as Mallory Kane as a Government ‘Security Contractor’ who is double crossed and left for dead.  She comes back to beat alllllllllllllll their asses for that.  Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas and others join Steven Soderbergh’s film that he specifically built around the fighting talents of Carano.  Speaking of Gina’s talents…I want to be that guy in the picture above more than you’ll ever know.

Underworld Awakening – Has not been reviewed by critics: Kate Beckinsale returns to her franchise, complete with new leather, and sets off to stop humans from destroying vampires and lycans altogether. Oh, and in 3D.  This seems to be the big film of the weekend, but no reviews are in.

Red Tails – 33%: In case you haven’t figured it out, 33% is a BAD number for what is supposed to be a dramatic retelling of the heroic story of the Tuskogee Airmen. We mostly blame Cuba Gooding, Jr for that.  George Lucas produced the film, that hasn’t helped it with critics.
