Jodie Foster landed the role of Libby after Meg Ryan and Brooke Shields both declined. Foster left the project for “personal reasons” and Helen Hunt was in talks to replace her. Ashley Judd ultimately landed the role.

Even though he received top billing, Tommy Lee Jones does not appear on screen until over 33 minutes into the film. He also earned $10 million, while Ashley Judd, who played the lead, was paid $1 million.

Double Jeopardy was primarily filmed in British Columbia, Canada, and Louisiana, USA. Vancouver was used for general city scenes, sailing sequences, and the Vancouver Public Library. Bowen Island was the location of the home belonging to Nick and Libby, Revelstoke for the courthouse scenes, and Prince George, Britannia Beach, North Vancouver, Richmond, and Edgemont Village for other Whidbey Island backdrop shots.

While it’s true that the U.S. Constitution forbids a person to be tried for the same crime after being acquitted, being convicted for a crime does not give a person license to then go and commit that same crime they were convicted of. Also, murder is not the only crime that Libby Parsons could have been charged with – others would include carrying a concealed weapon, stalking, assault, breaking and entering, destruction of property, parole violation, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, identity theft, fraud, and manslaughter.

The Random Draw for Next Picture:

Next up, not so random (this month) but we’ll make good and be discussing Dressed To Kill (1980)
