Weekend Box Office Oct 19-21

Well, Paranormal Activity 4 opened at #1 with $29 million…BUT that was $20m less than last years installment, which means no one was more scared this weekend than Paramount exec’s.  Nevertheless, these films cost just about nothing, so the fright flick is already profitable as well as Part 5 has been given the green light for next Halloween.  Like Saw, look for future installments to debut to dwindling box office. And also like Saw, expect them to suck.

Argo, on the other hand, had the best 2nd weekend hold for any film on more than 3,000 theaters EVER!  (by percentage) Easing only %15.5, the film brought in $16.4m for a $43m total thus far.  If it was possible, somebody would be greenlighting Argo 2 by now.  Nice job, Mr. Affleck.

Taken 2 and Hotel Transylvania both held on strong with $13.2m and $13m respectively.  Taken 2 has brought in $105m total and $175m overseas and has already surpassed the total worldwide box office of the original Daddy Gone Bourne Crazy flick.  Hotel Transylvania, meanwhile, has amassed $118m and with should have another good weekend or 2 as Halloween wraps up.  Get it, like a mummy?  Fine.

Last and obviously least, was Alex Cross.  Tyler Perry, you are NO Morgan Freeman sir.  Put a dress on and try again, because your flick opened to a paltry $11.3m, that’s less than Morgan’s Kiss the Girls FROM THE 90’S!!!  Audiences that did see it liked it as the CinemaScore rating was a solid A…but apparently they didn’t talk many of their friends into going.

Well that’s about it kids, be sure to listen to this week’s Ep 64 for our review of Argo and Sinister as well as what’s coming out this Oct. 26th.
