Buffy The Vampire Slayer | Remake This Movie RIGHT!

Buffy Summers was born in 1992 as a film starring Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland and Luke Perry. A spoiled young woman learns she has the power of a vampire slayer, and through her Watcher, she alone must fight against the vampires.

After the unsuccessful film, writer Joss Whedon assumed his creation was forever forgotten. Then, almost fortuitously, the WB Network decided to give Buffy another life in her own television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. That series managed to live on for 7 seasons, diverted several apocalypses, and Buffy even managed to die. A lot.

When we started season 2 of ‘Remake This Movie RIGHT!’, it was decided that every now and again, we would venture outside of the realm of only doing films with remakes already in the works, and occasionally tackle something we love that could handle a fresh coat of paint. Buffy is a character we adore, and was automatically the first choice for this effort. So listen as we discuss an updated remake for the Big Screen that combines BOTH the original film AND the TV series.

Over two decades ago, Joss Whedon introduced the world to the character of Buffy Summers, a teenager who was chosen to fight against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. SHE is the slayer…and it is time to Remake Buffy The Vampire Slayer RIGHT!

What IS Remake This Movie RIGHT?

Remake This Movie RIGHT! is a bi-weekly podcast where we take a classic film that is actively being remade by Hollywood studio execs, and craft our own version for a modern retelling. Does the story need updating? Should characters or motives be tweaked? Do we need more muppets? We take all factors into account, concoct our film, and then offer a Final Pitch to you in movie trailer form. By the end of each episode, we will Remake This Movie RIGHT!

Our show is broken down into three distinct parts:

The Original: We discuss the original film’s impact on us and history, some quick trivia bits, what worked the best from the film and therefore must remain in our upcoming remake, as well as what didn’t work or what needs to be changed for today’s audiences. Most importantly, should this film even be remake?

The Remake: We put together our movie! What story do we want to tell, how close to the original will it be, who will star, and ultimately who should direct our eventual cinematic masterpiece? Our hosts work together to put together one cohesive movie, but there is one caveat – Each host has one ‘CUT!’ throughout the episode to employ, which could completely derail the entire film.

The Final Pitch: This is where we summarize our remake by utilizing the voice talents of voiceover artist Wayne Henderson and present our finished remake to you in movie trailer parody form!

I didn’t watch BTVS when it first came out because I thought it was going to be the Silly/Campy style of the movie.

    • That seems to be most people’s reason for it. At least you found it eventually, right?
